Lugos

A plug-and-play gamified app for the Ludic Art Museum in Paris

Lugos endeavors to deliver an engaging experience for visitors to the museum. Upon arrival, they are presented with the opportunity to scan a QR code, prominently displayed, to harness Lugos's power. This plug-and-play gamified app invites participants on an adventure to liberate characters associated with the Ludic Art movement, such as Leonardo Da Vinci and Marie de France.

Throughout their journey, visitors will encounter these characters on large panel screens scattered throughout the museum. By scanning a QR code, they can enter a session where they must tackle a quiz based on the surrounding scenery. Successful completion of the quiz earns them a clue. Accumulating four clues is necessary to unlock the final reward, located in the last room of the visit—an enigmatic loot box with a randomized reward.

Storyboarding & leaflet

To effectively communicate our journey to both our client and potential users, we developed a concise storyboard/comic book, which you can preview below. Additionally, we transformed it into an interactive story, akin to those found in visual novel games, to enhance engagement and immersion.

This interactive format not only captivates the audience but also provides a dynamic platform for storytelling, ensuring that our message resonates with clarity and impact.

Creative Direction

Striking the right balance between art direction and value proposition was paramount. Ensuring an optimal blend of fun and educational elements was crucial. We underwent numerous iterations, focusing not only on the user interface but particularly on character development.

The name "Lugos" emerged as a unanimous choice, embodying our intended fusion of playfulness and knowledge, derived from "ludic" and "logos" in Greek. Thus, Lugos came into existence! While initially drawn to Ghibli-esque characters inspired by folklore and myths, we ultimately adhered to historical figures as per the project brief. However, we opted to represent them in various art styles, reflecting the diversity of the Ludic Art movement across mediums such as comics, animation, and video games.

Below are some of the mock-ups/concept art we created, before the final character creative direction phase was not yet been completed. These images features some of my work but they are not intended for final use in the project. Instead, our aim was to commission various skilled and notorious 2D and 3D artists, thereby investing in the creative industry and ensuring the development of original, high-quality assets for our project.

Mock-ups

As final deliverable, we came up with an entirely hifi prototype ready for hand-off. Unfortunately this project never got launched due to delay in the museum new opening in Gare Saint Lazare, Paris. This was partly due to covid but also construction problem with the building structure. Hopefully it'll do so!
